Adoption Stories - Cats

SPARE checks on every adopted animal once they are in their new homes to ensure that the situation is good for the animal and the adopter. Their stories are wonderful testaments to the relationships that form between animals and humans.

Many thanks to Margarete Salem, Tina Frei and Marieluie Duda who have placed more than 170 SPARE animals to new and loving homes..without them these animals would have never gotten a second chance in life.

Angel

This is Angel and she had quite a story. Angel, a beautiful persian was found in a garage after being tossed out by her owners like trash. Discarded pets is something we unfortunately continue to face everyday at SPARE.
Confused and starving, angel was taken into the SPARE shelter immediately for medical attention and food. After lots of love, affection and gaining her weight back, Angel was adopted by a new family in Germany. She's bounced back to life and lives an incredible life thanks to her new family.

Arty

This is gorgeous Arty. Previously named Fluffy (no need for an explanation there!), Arty was living in the SPARE shelter after being rescued from the harsh life on the streets. She is clearly enjoying her new life with her new family in Germany now...and we think she has a thing for leopard prints!

Caesar & Cleo

This is Caesar and Cleo, gorgeous Siamese kitties that were rescued by SPARE. Such beauties! Now they live in Germany with their new mom and have displayed a penchant for acrobatics :)

Anousha

This is gorgeous Anousha. She was a stray cat that was brought into the SPARE shelter with severe eye problems. She has since been adopted by Kim Bartlett and lives the plush and comfortable life with her new mom in the USA. She has undergone several operations to treat her eye problems, and despite all that, she is still a fiesty little thing!

Speedy

Hi, I'm Speedy...I know I have an odd name, but it was because of how I was found. I was rescued by one of the SPARE folks from a very busy Cairo highway when I was only 3 weeks old, I was so little then!
Now I live a pretty plush life with my new family...look at how cozy and snug I look in my picture, wrapped in the arms of one of my family members. I'm so grateful. Thanks SPARE!

Mitcho

Mitcho is my name and I am finally happy again. But boy-oh-boy was that a long road. After spending time locked up in a bathroom with my ‘wife & kids’, we were pushed from home to home and had no idea where we belonged or why there was no permanent home for us. I mean, look at me!!!

We arrived at SPARE where everyone took great care of us but I went into a deep and dark depression for three months, because I thought I had failed my family. Our ‘kids’ found new homes in no time – cute as they were, so my wife Vodka & I were left. We were all set to go to a new home together (!!!) but then Vodka, the love of my life passed away unexpectedly. Somebody get me some PROZAC!!! My rescue came in the form of Pandora (see her story below).

Together we now live in Germany with the most wonderful family and after reflecting back I think that everything happens for a reason. I love my new life and family.

Pandora

I am Pandora, the one sleeping between Mitcho and my daddy's foot. My shelter "mommy Mona" gave me this very fitting name after she learned that I appreared on the scene by ' flying' out of a box. But the story didn’t have a happy beginning at all. You see, I was thrown out of a car when I was just mere 3 weeks young. I thank my lucky stars for the SPARE volunteer who saw it happen and took me to the shelter.I am a really affectionate “kisser” and love to play play play! I am now with a loving family in Germany together with my pal “Mitcho” (see his story above).
